The Story
From the Highlands of Guji.
Founder Tadesse Edema was born to farmers in Guji, where his family cultivated coffee through the 1900s. In 1989 he began working as a local supplier. By 1995 he was managing coffee processing and specialty operations.
In 2008, he pioneered coffee processing in Tabe Burka, laying the groundwork for what would become Uraga, one of Ethiopia's most celebrated coffee origins. That same year Barkume Coffee Export was established.
Today Barkume operates founder-owned farms in East Guji Zone, partner estates across the highlands, and a network of over 700 smallholder growers, all coordinated by an export house in Addis Ababa built on trust and traceability.
